Building Confidence for Your Birth Journey

Every day is an opportunity to cultivate confidence as you prepare for your birth.

At Rise Independent Midwives, we believe that nurturing your mindset is just as important as the physical aspects of your journey.

Here are some simple yet powerful actions you can take daily to help you feel more empowered and ready for your birth experience.

1. Seek Inspiration :

Look for positive birth stories and videos to inspire yourself and your birth partner. Surrounding yourself with uplifting experiences can transform your mindset and strengthen your belief in a positive outcome. Check out the highlights on our Instagram for a collection of positive experiences

2. Move Your Body

Make it a daily ritual to walk and listen to positive birth affirmations. Movement not only benefits your physical well-being but also helps release endorphins, boosting your mood and confidence. Try combining your walks with deep breathing exercises to enhance relaxation and connection with your baby. Every step you take is a step closer to your empowering birth!

3. Create Space for Your Baby

Use an exercise ball to encourage your baby to move into the best position for birth. Explore the “3 balances” from Spinning Babies, or try the Wheel from @breasts_birth_babies to help your baby find optimal positioning. Regularly practising these positions can not only assist with fetal positioning but also relieve back pain and discomfort, helping you feel more at ease in your body.

4. Nurture Your Body

Sip on nettle tea to nourish your blood and red-raspberry leaf tea to strengthen your womb muscles. These herbal remedies have been used for generations to support women in pregnancy. Nettle tea is rich in iron, which can help combat pregnancy-related fatigue, while red-raspberry leaf is known for toning the uterus and may ease labor contractions. Find your recipe here :

5. Embrace Relaxation

Practice breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. If you have access to a meditation app, use it! I recommend @expectful for guided sessions, but there are also many free options on Spotify. You might also explore practices like hypnobirthing, which can provide tools for relaxation and pain management during labour. Learning to control your breath can make a significant difference in how you navigate contractions and the overall birth experience.

6. Build Your Support Team

Look for a brilliant support team that resonates with you. Feeling connected and aligned with those around you is crucial for a positive birth experience. Your team should reflect your vision and mindset for birth. Whether it’s your partner, family, friends, or a trusted midwife, ensure they uplift you and support your choices. Consider joining local birth groups or online communities where you can connect with other expectant parents who share your values.

7. Educate Yourself

Dive into learning about the labour blueprint and phases. Two fantastic resources are Reclaiming Childbirth as a Rite of Passage by dr. Rachel Reed and a lovely gem called A Birth Path by Hazel Tree. Understanding the process empowers you to embrace it fully. Additionally, attending childbirth education classes can provide valuable insights and techniques to prepare you mentally and physically.

8. Reflect on Your Beliefs

Take time to reflect on your beliefs about birth. Write in a journal about your desires, fears, and expectations. Acknowledging your feelings can help you identify any negative beliefs that may be holding you back. Consider reframing those thoughts into positive affirmations, such as “I trust my body and my baby” or “I am capable of having a positive birth experience.

So, NOW ASK YOURSELF: How you are Feeling?

What is your mindset about birth? Are there fears or uncertainties that you’d like to shift? We’re here to help you navigate this journey and build the confidence you need for your special day.

Let’s connect and explore how we can support you on this beautiful path to motherhood!
